Academies of Hope
Across Gaza, children are growing up without consistent access to education, healthcare, or safe daily routines. The Academies of Hope were created to restore what instability has taken away: a place children can return to each day, supported by trusted adults, learning alongside their peers, and receiving care that addresses both immediate needs and long term wellbeing. There are currently 5 operating academies. Each academy operates as part of a wider, integrated ecosystem, combining education, nutrition, healthcare, and psychosocial support in one consistent daily setting.
Daily Stability in the Midst of Crisis
The Academies of Hope provide safe, community based campuses where children receive daily education, warm meals, medical attention, and trauma informed psychosocial support. Delivered by local teachers, caregivers, and medical teams, the academies are designed to bring stability, dignity, and continuity to children and families living through crisis.
Each morning, children arrive at the Academies of Hope from foster families and displacement shelters across Gaza. Many come having experienced severe food insecurity, with some reporting they had not eaten for days before enrollment. In response to this urgent need, Gaza Children’s Village immediately activated a partnership with World Central Kitchen.
The first academies opened on July 26, and by July 27, daily meal provision was operational. Every child now receives at least one nutritious meal per day, with portions intentionally structured so children can bring bread or food home to support their families through the evening.
The Academies provide structured daily education and return children safely to their foster or extended families each afternoon. This rhythm of consistency restores routine, security, and a sense of belonging.
GCV operates the only functioning large scale education network in Gaza currently delivering a revised, peace centered curriculum of this kind. While anchored in the Palestinian Authority educational framework, the curriculum has been carefully restructured to remove harmful or inflammatory content and replace it with lessons grounded in dignity, coexistence, emotional intelligence, and shared humanity.
Children attend the same academy each day, supported by consistent staff and familiar routines. Our Global Citizen Virtues Curriculum is paired with meals, health monitoring, and emotional support, ensuring that learning can take place in an environment where basic needs are met and children feel safe. Families are engaged as part of this model, strengthening trust and reinforcing stability beyond the classroom.
Our Mission
The mission of the Academies of Hope is to protect childhood during crisis by building daily systems of care that endure. We focus on consistency over short term intervention, ensuring that children have reliable access to education, nourishment, healthcare, and trusted relationships every day.
As Gaza Children’s Village continues to grow, the Academies of Hope remain the foundation of our work. They represent a long term commitment to children, families, and communities, grounded in local leadership and designed to scale as part of a self sustaining ecosystem of care.
